Goldfinches KS1 Years 1 and 2
A Day in the life of Goldfinches:
One of the best things about being in Goldfinches is that because we are the oldest children at Marsworth School, we get to be ‘monitors’ and help others in school with the registers, fruit, letters, playtime, cloakroom, computer and music for Collective Worship. This allows us to develop into young responsible pupils.
When we arrive at school, there is always something for us to do, whether this is a maths revision activity or finishing of work. The register is taken and we are encouraged to be creative when answering our names by using a different languages.
We have a daily act of worship where we reflect on our school vision and values of courage, compassion, curiosity and respect. we often sing songs and listen to Bible stories. Friday's act of worship are extremely enjoyable as we welcome Rev James into school.
Each day we do phonics in our phonics groups. Throughout the morning we participate in maths and English lessons.
At playtime we have fruit and get to play outside. Our Monitors get us lovely toys from the shed to play with. If you are lonely don’t worry we have playtime buddies to help you.
We are always ready for our Lunch there is an option to have a packed lunch from home or a hearty delicious school dinner. Our favourites are: fish, curry, pizza and hot dogs!
Reading is very important and we begin the afternoon with a 10 mins reading for pleasure activity where we enjoy reading a book of our choice.
Every afternoon we do our topic lessons. We try to link all subjects to the topic. This term our topic is Transport. In Science we are learning about materials and their properties. Which materials do you think would be best for building railways and bridges? In History we are learning about the history of the railways and George Stephenson, from here we will be linking our DT work by designing and making models of steam engines!
Along with our PE lesson we participate in a weekly swimming lesson at Aqua Vale. Wednesdays are the best - we love them!
